about

I have endometriosis, and I wrote this song during a year when I was in a lot of pain. It was really hard for me to love myself and to want to live in my body when my body was so uncomfortable and painful to live in. Endometriosis can also cause infertility, so I’m also expressing how it feels to have a “barren” body — a body that’s not inhabitable for me or anyone else.

lyrics

Oh my body is not my home
No, my body is not my home
‘Cause it ain’t loving me, as far as I can tell
It’s weakened flesh, it don’t treat me well
It’s not home for my soul
Oh oh oh

Home
Home
Home ain’t where I’ve come from
It’s muddy at the bottom, where my soul’s gone
Oh no oh, oh no oh

Well I don’t like my body, it don’t treat me well
This ain’t not home for my soul, it’s a living hell
In fact, my soul has been wandering, looking for a new place to go
I can feel it sinking to the earth to the worms and the bones

Home
Home
Home ain’t where I’ve come from
It’s muddy at the bottom, where my soul’s gone
Oh no oh, oh no oh

Yeah see this body’s a burden, it keeps me down
And the doctors are certain, there’s no cure to be found
So maybe I’ll give this body back to the sea
Cause all that it’s good for is misery

Chorus
Home
Home
Home ain’t where I’ve come from
It’s muddy at the bottom, where my soul’s gone
Oh no oh, oh no oh

But see there’s just one problem that I know
If I leave this body, where will my soul go?
Cause without my soul, what am truly I worth
I’m just another barren woman giving up to the earth

Home ain’t where I’ve come from
It’s muddy at the bottom, where my soul’s gone
Oh no oh, oh no oh
Home ain’t where I’ve come from
It’s muddy at the bottom, where my soul’s gone
Oh no oh, oh no
